43 year old Clarence Smith and James Austin were drinking buddies and would frequently go to the area of East Colfax and Yosemite Street on the Denver-Aurora city border. They would gamble and go to the dog track together. Clarence and Austin were found together shot to death in the tall grass in the alley between Franklin and Humboldt Streets near East 25th Avenue behind a vacant house.
