About this Case:
15-year-old Stephanie Chavez was murdered in Pueblo, Colorado on April 24th, 1994. At around 12:45 am on that Saturday, Stephanie was in a vehicle with several other passengers, mostly female. The car, driven by her cousin Darla, was heading east on the W. 18th St. viaduct when a vehicle coming from the west fired at them. Darla, then just 18, said everyone ducked as the bullets came through the front windshield. She asked everyone if they were okay after it was over but then noticed Stephanie was silent. Darla saw Stephanie had been shot and rushed her cousin to the hospital. Stephanie passed away from her injury at the hospital, having been shot in the head. Law enforcement believe gang activity is responsible though Stephanie and the girls in the car were not involved with gangs - they were innocent bystanders.
