About this Case:
Patricia Haywood was found shot in the head shortly after 9 a.m. on July 1, 1964 in the alleyway to the rear of 1350 N. 17th Street. Her underclothing and shorts were torn down to her ankles; a yellow blouse had been pushed up around her neck. No evidence of sexual assault was recovered from the scene. Several neighbors who heard possible gunshots thought they were firecrackers for the fourth of July. Authorities believe Haywood was walking to her mother's apartment at 1827 Bunting Avenue after a night out with her friend when the incident took place.
