About this Case:

Around 1:30pm on Monday, June 4th, 1979, a woman returned to her apartment at South Pearl St, Littleton, Colorado to feed her cats during her break from work. She walked past Ms. Brunhoffs apartment window, which is located on the same block, and noticed it was broken. She attempted to contact Martha with no success. She unlocked the front door and opened it slightly, and through the opening in the door she could see the victim, Ms. Brunhoff, slouched over in her sofa. She ran to the back door, unlocked it, and went inside where she found her head covered with blood and deceased. Deputies arrived and determined Ms. Brunhoff, a 57 year old white female, was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The victim was sitting with her left leg crossed over her right, holding a partially burnt cigarette in her left hand, and a television guide in her lap. On a table to the right of the body were two boxes of Golden Light cigarettes, an ashtray full of cigarettes buds, a glass with fluid in it, a container of Vaseline, and a nail filer. There was also a pair of blue shoes on the floor in front of the victim. Further investigation revealed that the gunshot penetrated the window from outside in. A bullet attached with the hair of the victim was found on the other sofa to the right of the victim. No casings were found outside of the apartment. Results from the autopsy concluded that the victim died from a single gunshot wound to the head. An analysis of the lead projectile obtained from the crime scene concluded that the projectile came from either a .38 Special or 357 Magnum bullet. The weapon used most likely was a Colt revolver, or a Garate Anitua. Some nearby residents stated that they heard a possible gunshot between 9:30pm and 10:30pm on June 3rd, 1979. There were no reports of any suspicious persons or vehicles around the time of the homicide. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office.
